Becoming a WISDOM Research Partner

The WISDOM research network provides a direct line to a growing network of schools who are actively seeking opportunities to enrich practice through research engagement.

WISDOM supports deeper and more sustained dissemination of findings, maximising research impact for young people. Research partners will have the opportunity to share their findings through the Network, as well as engage in wider Network activities.

Engagement opportunities are promoted via website, newsletter, events, and social media. They should be suitable for primary schools, secondary schools, sixth form colleges, and further education colleges. Research partners will have accredited Network membership and may use the WISDOM Research Network logo and branding on research activity documentation.

The following types of activities are considered for partnership:

  • Research studies (all study designs are considered)
  • Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement activities
  • Practice Evaluations

The WISDOM team is able to advise on study design to maximise impact.

Partner activities must:

  • Demonstrate and provide benefits and feedback for schools — e.g. sharing findings and resources; holding seminars or workshops
  • Align and help us achieve our Mental Health in Development overall vision.
  • Adhere to the WISDOM Research Network Framework.
  • Have appropriate ethical approval and safeguarding procedures in place (where applicable) before recruitment begins.
  • Ensure any data is processed in accordance with requirements of data protection law, with appropriate approvals in place (where applicable).

We ask that our research partners follow our framework when working with schools in the WISDOM Research Network. This framework is relevant to researchers aiming to facilitate child & adolescent health and education research, as well as related activities, with member schools. The framework includes procedures for:

  • Encouraging student participation in research activities
  • Formalising and maintaining agreements with member schools
  • Establishing partnerships with other researchers conducting relevant research
  • Requirements for research and related activities (e.g. Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE), practice evaluations) that are advertised to member schools.

We ask the named lead for Partner activities to:

  • Complete and sign the WISDOM Research Network Application Form and Partnership Agreement.
  • Provide information about the research activity to be included in WISDOM Research Network Newsletters and in other Network communication (e.g. social media, website).
  • Comply with our reporting requirements.

Reporting requirements:

  • Report to the WISDOM Research Network involvement of any member schools in Partnered activity.
